Holistic Approach

At Ambler Counseling Center, we strive to take into account the whole person as a client. Our psychiatric team works in conjunction with our therapeutic team to ensure that our holistic approach is comprehensive. Working under the same roof allows us to connect and address your needs from a team approach.

We understand that medication management is such a needed support at this time, and can be incredibly difficult to initiate. Your work with our psychiatric team will be tailored to you and we strive to meet these needs as soon as we identify them. Medication Check-Ins With Our Psychiatric Providers

Our medication check-ins and follow up appointments are 30 minutes. We believe that our medical team are not simply providers, they are an additional layer of support in your therapeutic journey.

Medication Check Ins

Once you’ve established a solid rapport with our psychiatric team and have found the balance you desire, the teamwork does not abruptly come to an end. We recognize that body chemistry and environmental factors can sometimes necessitate a quick tune-up to make sure the engine’s running smoothly.

Medical Check Ins

Our medication check-ins are a good option for when you’ve found your footing with your current medication plan - our psychiatric team will support you in checking in on side effects, any increase or decrease of symptoms, and any other physiological or environmental factors that could impact your growth.

Psychiatric Evaluations

We like to think of our psychiatric evaluations as a delicate gathering of puzzle pieces that can aide in the assembly of your vision for yourself. Following your one hour evaluation, you can expect to gain some clarity around how you’ve been feeling and receive a diagnosis to promote your journey forward.

Benefits of a psych evaluation

While none of us fit neatly into a box, a psychiatric evaluation, or “psych eval”, can often highlight specific needs that arise for us. A psychiatric evaluation can benefit you in several ways - perhaps this guides your work in counseling, helps you name some of the experiences you’ve had thus far, opens doors to new supports, or provides new language to express what you’ve been going through.

Comprehensive Psychological Testing

Our psychiatric evaluations are comprehensive and assess for various psychosocial areas including concerns that you’ve been experiencing, medical history, family dynamics and living situation, along with others that might impact how you’re feeling and functioning.

For our teen (and younger) clients, we encourage parents to join for the beginning portion of the evaluation to provide some additional insight and get to know the medical team. After this, we aim to empower our clients under 18 to be able to share openly in their own space, then ask parents to return at the end of the evaluation to discuss any recommendations and next steps. In order to be involved in your child's care, we ask that all clients over 14 years old sign off on a written consent form prior to start of evaluation.

Some specialized areas of need that we would support a specialized referral for include: co-occurring disorders or primary substance misuse concerns, psychotic features or schizophrenia spectrum disorders, addictive behaviors such as sexual compulsions, or concerns with aggressive behavior or violence. We do not specialize in any kind of court involvement or legal processes. Our #1 goal is to support linking you with a provider who has the education and experience to support your specific needs!

Genetic Testing

Genetic Makeup

One of the neat features we provide through our psychiatric team is genetic testing. Genetic testing offers the unique opportunity to apply assessment of your actual genetic make up to your game plan for growth and progress. Genetic testing is done in-office and sent to a lab for review.

Medication Management - Genetic Testing

Finding the right medication can be a tricky journey - with this tool, our team is able to narrow down options to limit the need for trying on various medications prior to finding the right fit.

Medication and Genetics

Following the receipt of your results, our psychiatric team will review different areas of the very genes that make you who you are. This opportunity allows for our team to gain an understanding of which medications may best suit your needs based on genetic factors and which may not be the best fit long time.
